In September, the project team successfully published a monograph entitled “Empowering Women’s Political Participation: Historical Contexts, Contemporary Trends and Challenges”. The monograph was edited by the EWA project leader, Dr. Suzana Košir, with chapters contributed by other members of the project team.
In ten chapters, the authors present the process of women’s rights formation and the women’s rights movement in Slovenia, they offer an overview of gender equality and women’s empowerment in politics, and focus on balancing family life and political career, the importance of education and media representations for women’s political empowerment, present the strategies of organisations fighting for women’s rights, the effects of interventions on political empowerment and gender stereotypes among high school students, and the role of mentoring in politics. The monograph concludes with recommendations for stakeholders active in the field of civic participation and gender equality.
The handbook is intended for women interested in politics, aiming to enhance their political knowledge and seeking a path to better understanding of political operations. It is designed to help understand the importance of women’s representation in the political process and provides practical advice for participating in politics. The focus is on building confidence, development, communication skills, networking, and effectively overcoming challenges.
Master publication of the EWA project (Empowering Women in Active Society) is the key material of the project, bringing together all the information gathered, analyses carried out, procedures followed and events held as part of the project. Through the latter, we aimed to cover the key stages of the project, which addressed specific aspects of political action of young girls and women. The document includes the results of the surveys we carried out before and after the activities, an analysis of the barriers that prevent higher levels of political participation of girls and women, a presentation of the training manuals and online tools and training activities that took place during the project, as well as the awareness-raising strategies we used. In doing so, we focused on young girls and women, the secondary school population and educational staff as well as state administration who can contribute to a more inclusive society through policy-making.
